Inferno
Directed by Joaquim Leitao
(Portugal, 1999, 120 min.)
Wheelchair-bound d Joaquim de Almeida and his nine pals, all fellow
veterans from the 70's colonial war in Angola, gather at one member's country
restaurant for their annual boozy get-together. But as the night wears on,
and as hooker Cristina Cbmara and enraged wronged wife Ana Bustorff enter
the mix, the home truths proliferate, while a hunting accident that
happened en route leads them all to tap into forgotten instincts for
one final mission. This is a complexly intercut ensemble character
study that turns into a nerve-shredding thriller, from Portugal's
most popular and cinematic director. (Portuguese with subtitles)
