JOAQUIM DE ALMEIDA FAN SITE

BORN: March 15, 1957 in Lisbon, Portugal. His Astrological sign is Pisces. I don't have his time of birth, so I don't know what his Ascendant (rising sign) is, but his Moon is in Virgo, and he appears to have a stellium in Pisces as his Mercury and Venus are also in Pisces. (A stellium is three or more planets in the same sign and house).

NICKNAME: His friends call him, Quim.

HEIGHT: I'm often asked how tall Joaquim is! From reliable sources, he is between 5'7 and 5'9. (sorry, I've not asked him...)

HOW TO PRONOUCE HIS NAME: This is probably the second most asked question. Since he is Portuguese (not Spanish) the "J" is sounded. It is pronouced: Jsho-keem. (you don't really hear the "a" and there is a "shhh" sound to the "J". His nickname, Quim is pronouced: Keem.

MARITAL STATUS: Previously married to Cecilia de Almeida. They have one son. He is in a relationship with Brazilian singer Carmo Risques, and they have a son together.

TIDBITS: Before he turned to acting as his full-time profession, he was a gardener at the Embassy of Zaire in Austria, as well as a waiter in NYC.

He speaks seven languages (and can act in all of them!). His native language is Portuguuse. He also speaks Spanish, German, Italian, English, French. (That is six rather than seven if you are counting - I'll find out specifically what the seventh is and post it here.

Joaquim has appeared in more than forty internationally acclaimed films, and has worked extensively in Europe, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States in films and countless stage productions.

He won the Best Actor Award at the Cairo Film Festival for his 1992 performance in Portrait De Famille and received international attention for his role in Good Morning Babylon, Beyond the Limit and The Soldier.

On the New York stage, de Almeida appeared in several New York Shakespeare Festival productions including Blood Wedding, What Would Jeanne Moreau Do, at the WPA Theatre and The Count of Monte Cristo, directed by Peter Sellars at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

One of the witnessess at his marriage was the man who portrayed his father in Good Morning Babylon. (again, unconfirmed)
