POSITIVE THINKING
We all want the best in life, or at least that is what we "think" we think. Oftentimes, we actually limit ourselves by thinking the opposite. `I'd like a new job, but I'd never get one, I can't compete in today's market'. `I'd like to have a relationship, but no one would love me, I'm too fat or ugly'. What that mode of thinking does is to send a strong message to your brain that you believe it's impossible for you to achieve that goal. A huge obstacle has just been placed unknowingly in your path....by you! Our brain dutifully attempts to do what we tell it, and often in a very literal manner. Most of us don't pay much attention to our pattern of thinking, we just go along on `automatic pilot', so to speak. When we tell ourselves we'll not be able to remember, or do, or achieve something, our brain attempts to comply. On the other hand, if you think and believe you are able to succeed, the brain also attempts to comply. Now, just by "thinking" it true isn't going to get you anything and everything you desire. What it will do is give you a tool to achieve what you want, and a powerful tool at that. Ever heard the saying, `it's all in the power of the mind'? Yes, there ARE some impossibilities in this world. No matter how hard I try, I'm probably not going to marry Richard Gere! I've never even met the man! However, much of what we perceive as being impossible for us to achieve or receive is not! We further complicate matters by feeling it is "bad" or "selfish" to want material things, thereby again limiting ourselves. Wanting a better life, a better job, love, or a more comfortable lifestyle is not selfish. It's really a matter of what we "tell" our brains--our minds--what we want and believe we can have, or are "allowed" to have. We are in effect programming ourselves be it for negative....or positive. If we keep thinking negatively towards the very things we want, we are really saying we don't think we can...or should. It could be fear of what it really would be like if we did have that, or achieved that goal. Many times it's because we are afraid to fail. Then we hide behind saying we will try. The word "try" in itself is indicative of a high probability of failure. When we say we will try to do something, we really mean we doubt our capability or desire to do so. Things will not just fall out of the sky or suddenly appear on your doorstep....usually. This is not magic, although in many instances things will seem to happen effortlessly. Lady Luck may appear to be on your side for a change. You may find lots of lucky "coincidences" happening to you. Major goals still require work and dedication. However, there are techniques you can use to better focus your energies and activities in order to succeed. Instead of sitting around wishing you could do or have something, you'll find that you will be taking positive steps towards that end. Add some of those "coincidences" and you have a very powerful technique in your repetoire.
