POSITIVE THINKING
Positive Thinking is a way of life rather than a momentary thought. We need to learn to develop thinking positively as an ingrained habit rather than something we pull out only whenever we realize things may not be going as we want. The term state of mind is applicable in so many ways. If we are in an upbeat frame of mind...well things just seem to go better! The reverse is true as well. When we are in a down or depressed mode of thinking, things just seem to go from bad to worse. Okay, simply by thinking either positively or negatively isn't going to instantly make our world better or worse. It does,however, affect how we react, both to people and situations. It affects how people react to us, and even can make a difference to our health. Much of how we feel is determined by our mental state. For instance, let's say you go into work one day. You started out the morning all right, nothing out of the ordinary - your usual routine. When you get into the office, one of your co-workers walks up to you and says, "hey...are you feeling okay? You look a bit pale? Hope you're not getting that flu that's going around!" Up to now, you've not given much thought to your current health. You thought you felt fine before you got to work. Perhaps you look in the mirror and wonder if you do look a bit pale? In a few minutes, someone else walks up to you and comments similarily. Now your are sure you must not be feeling well - after all people are commenting! Well, in a short while, you probably will be pale and not feeling very well! The mind is a powerful thing, and you've just been given suggestions that you don't feel well. We often comply with those suggestions. And try the reverse! You go to work, same as usual. Nothing out of the ordinary. But this time one of your co-workers walks up to you and says, "Wow! You look terrific today! Did you lose weight? Get a new outfit? What? You look fantastic!" You can bet that you straighten up and feel even better. People notice that and keep commenting on how wonderful you look today. Here is another example of suggestion - only in the positive. Now what would happen if you gave yourself positive suggestions and reinforcement? You can accomplish this by practicing being in a more positive frame of mind until it comes naturally. After some practice it will become a habit, and you will generally be positive. Giving yourself positive affirmations is a great tool to help reinforce a positive outlook. (I am confident, successful, caring, aware, etc.). What do you think would happen if you gave yourself negative reinforcement? If you learn to develop a generally positive frame of mind, a positive way of thinking - it will have an effect on you! No, it's not going to solve all your problems. But it will help you to deal with them better, and giving you a better perspective on your problems. In this section, I will include several techniques and affirmations that will help you develop positive thinking as a habit so that it will become a natural way of life for you.
